Standard Chartered Bank Kenya Limited is the proud Title Sponsor of the Standard Chartered Nairobi Marathon, the largest single-day athletic event held in Kenya since 2003. The Bank, with the support of event organizers, Athletics Kenya, have built an event that has become internationally renowned and has placed Kenya on the global map.

To date, the marathon has attracted over 270,000 participants from all walks of life. Between 2003 to 2019, we raised over US$5 Million towards Seeing is Believing. In 2019, we set out on a new path. The bank adopted the ‘Futuremakers’ initiative which tackles inequality and promotes economic inclusion for the younger generation. To date we have raised over USD 600,000 but invested over USD 2.8 million through Futuremakers impacting over 27,000 lives. We currently have 5 projects focused on Education, Employability and Entrepreneurship. All funds raised from the marathon go towards the ‘Future Makers’ Initiative.

The 20th edition of the marathon will be held on Sunday 29th October 2023 and will take up a hybrid format – a satellite run in Kisumu, Kakamega and Mombasa and a physical marathon. The physical marathon will be run along the Southern Bypass in Nairobi with a great view of the Nairobi National Park. We look to host 25,000 runners from across the globe including person with disabilities and engage 1000 volunteers. Through tree planting and reducing plastic usage, we are working to make the 20th marathon edition the most sustainable marathon in the region.

Celebrating 20 years of running
Identify and provide opportunity for local athletic talent to excel
Raise the profile of Kenya internationally
Boost international and domestic tourism to Kenya
Create a community event for everyone’s enjoyment.
