All eyes on Afraha for fourth leg of Betika AK Track and Field meeting

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 2, 2025 – The fourth leg of the Betika Athletics Kenya (AK) Track and Field Weekend meeting heads to Nakuru where hundreds of athletes will continue their build-up for the World Championships in Tokyo.

AK treasurer, Nakuru region, David Otiti says it is all systems go at the refurbished Afraha Stadium, which will host its first major competition in close to four years.

“It’s great opportunity for athletics to come and compete as they gear up for international competitions, including the Tokyo World Championships in August,” the former athlete said.

The previously, dusty murram track is no more as it has been replaced by a light blue, brand new tartan track.

The facelift adds an extra spice to the cutthroat competition expected across 11 disciplines including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 3000m steeplechase, 5000m and 10,000m, among others.

Otiti believes that the weekend’s showdown will add to Nakuru’s colourful history as a bedrock of Kenyan athletics.

“With so much anticipation surrounding the event, it is clear that Nakuru is ready to once again shine on the athletics map,” he said.

Registration is ongoing, with all participants required to collect their bib numbers on Thursday (April 3).
