NAIROBI, Kenya, November 20 – The road to the World Masters Indoor Championships begins at the Kenyatta University Sports Arena where hundreds of athletes will be competing at the national trials on Friday.
The one-day event will feature competitions in different categories including 10, 000m, shot put (men), 60m, long jump, 1,500m, 400m, 10, 000m walk race, hammer (women), 200m, 800m, triple jump, javelin (men), 60m hurdles, and 3, 000m flat.
Only the first place finishers in every category will obtain direct tickets to represent the country at the global competition, scheduled for Florida on March 23-30 next year.
Speaking ahead of the trials, Athletics Kenya’s (AK) Masters secretary Rose Tata Muya said the team selected will be the best-of-the-best to ensure a medal haul in Florida.
“We want to select a strong team that will replicate the performance of the team that represented the country at the World Masters Championships in Sweden this year,” Muya said.
All participants will be required to have a national ID and valid travel documents.
They will also be expected to cater for their expenses involved in participating in the national trials.
Kenya will be hoping to go one better than the last edition of the championships in Torun, Poland in March last year where they clinched six gold and three silver.
