NAIROBI, Kenya, October 19, 2025 – Athletics Kenya on Saturday wrapped up a transformative four-day training programme for female coaches at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
A total of 44 female coaches proudly earned their World Athletics Level One Coaching Certificates, marking a major step in empowering women in athletics coaching across the country.
Before the in-person sessions, participants completed a three-day mandatory online course, setting the foundation for the intensive hands-on training that followed.
Gracing the auspicious occasion were Lang’ata Garrison Commander Brigadier Mathew Lenamunai, NOCK First Vice President Barnaba Korir, Athletics Kenya CAO Susan Kamau and Athletics Kenya Safeguarding Chairperson Elizabeth Keitany.
AK’s CAO Susan Kamau expressed her gratitude to the instructors and confirmed that the programme achieved full national representation.
“I appreciate our lecturers; they have done a perfect job training the ladies,” Kamau said.
“I can confirm that all the regions were represented, it was 100 per cent attendance.”
AK Youth Development Chair and NOCK First Vice President Barnaba Korir congratulated the graduates and commended Kamau and Keitany for spearheading a successful and impactful programme.
“I congratulate all of you for turning up and I am happy to know that all counties and regions were represented,” Korir said.
“This programme is very exciting and I want to thank our safeguarding chair and CAO for organizing such a successful event.”
Korir also urged the federation to extend similar opportunities to male coaches to ensure holistic development in athletics.
“We also need to organise a coaching programme for male coaches,” he emphasized.
World Athletics Level One lecturer Samuel Letaba expressed satisfaction at imparting his expertise to the participants.
“I studied athletics coaching in Germany and have gone through IAAF and World Athletics levels of coaching,” Letaba said.
“I was glad to meet the ladies and pass on that knowledge to them.”
The participants underwent comprehensive theoretical and practical modules across all track and field events, equipping them with in-depth technical know-how and modern coaching strategies.
“We covered all areas of athletics; track and field. The participants performed exceptionally well, taking part in both theory and practical sessions to fully understand the techniques, steps and observations required in effective coaching,” Letaba added.
