NAIROBI, Kenya, August 8, 2025 – Athletics Kenya (AK) have unveiled a nationwide registration to clamp down on unscrupulous coaches, managers and athletics support personnel (ASP).
The exercise, which also targets training camps and medical staff, will begin on Tuesday (August 12) until November this year.
“The registration exercise is a crucial step in our strategy to standardise and regulate the operations of all athletics camps and groups all over the country to ensure a safe, professional and accountable environment for our athletes,” AK said in a statement.
Subsequently, each of these categories of professionals will be expected to submit certain documentation during the registration process.
“Coaches must submit a coaching certificate and a Police Clearance Certificate. Medical staff must present their professional license and a Police Clearance Certificate. All other ASP members, such as camp administrators, need to submit relevant certifications in their respective fields and a Police Clearance Certificate,” the federation explained.
The exercise will begin in the South Rift region, moving on to the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), National Police Service (NPS), Kenya Prisons and the Nairobi region.
The second phase will cover Eastern, North Eastern, Southern, Coast, Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western regions.
The registration will go a long way in curtailing issues, such as sexual exploitation and harassment of young athletes, gender-based violence (GBV), financial exploitation and doping – many of which have been alluded to unscrupulous coaches and managers as well as other ASPs.
