ELDORET, Kenya, February 22, 2025 – Purity Chepkirui edged a close race to win the women’s 2km loop at the Absa Sirikwa Classic World Cross Country Tour at the Lobo Village in Eldoret on Saturday.
The 2021 World Under 20 1500m champion clocked 06:46 to cut the tape, ahead of African 800m silver medalist Lillian Odira who timed 06:47 in second place.
Daisilah Bor came third in 06:48.
Speaking after the race, Odira said her focus is on this year’s World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.
“It was a good and fantastic race. Im okay with my second place finish. I hope I will make the team for the World Indoor Championships,” the Paris Olympian said.
Her podium finish on Saturday came a week after she clocked 2:01:04 to win the women’s 800m at the World Indoor Tour in Lyon.
On her part, Chepkirui stormed to victory at the National Cross Country Championships at the Eldoret Sports Club where she clocked 7:01.06 to clinch the women’s 2km loop.
