Athletics Kenya (AK) has today released the calendar of events for the 2023/2024 season, which is packed with major local and international competitions.
Unlike previous years, this season’s track and field activities have been brought forward to December this year to accommodate and allow for adequate preparations for African Games, scheduled for March 8-23 in Accra Ghana.
Subsequently, the first leg of the AK Track and Field Weekend Series will be held in Kisumu on December 1-2 – with a focus on sprints and field events – followed by Thika (December 15-16), Embu, Nairobi, Kisii and Mombasa.
The track and field series will double up as AK relay meets in the run-up to the World Relay Championships in Nassau, Bahamas on May 4-5, next year.
The track and field weekend meetings will be preceded by the AK Cross Country Series, which commenced on October 14th at the Machakos People’s Park. Other legs of the series will be held in Kapsokwony (October 21), Sotik, Ol Kalou, Iten and Nanyuki.
Top performers in the cross-country weekend meetings stand a chance of selection into Team Kenya for the Sirikwa Classic Cross Country Gold Tour (3rd February) at Lobo Village, Eldoret.
Moreover, AK will conduct various events in the World Athletics Global calendar, which will aid in the selection of athletes to represent the country at major international competitions. These events include the following:
- 3rd AK Track & Field Weekend Meeting/Relay Series
- Trials for African Games
- National Police Service Police Track and Field Championships
- Kenya Prisons Track and Field Championships
- Kenya Defence Forces Track and Field Championships
- National Athletics Championships
- Trials for The XXXIII Olympic Games
The federation’s technical committee is also evaluating applications for various local road races for the coming season and will release a calendar for the same as soon as the process is complete.
AK wishes all the best to athletes as they prepare to participate in different competitions.
