Aluvi, Sang off to great start at Africa Under 18/20 Champs in Nigeria

NAIROBI, Kenya, July 17, 2025 – Kenyan sprinter Clinton Aluvi progressed to the next round of the Africa Under 18 and Under 20 Championships in Nigeria on the opening day of competition on Wednesday.

The youngster clocked 10.37 to finish first in Heat 1 of the Under 20 men’s 100m, ahead of Zimbabwean Tshuma Methembe who timed 10.52 in second place.

Phaezel Prince Selepe of Botswana finished third after running 10.62.

In the Under 18 men’s 400m, Robert Sang secured his ticket into the next round with victory in Heat 2, clocking 48.92.

Egyptian Abdelnaby Mohamed came second in 49.39 whereas Goodluck Johbull of Nigeria finished third after clocking 49.92.

Also safe and secure in the next round is Evans Rotich who finished third in Heat 3 of the Under 20 men’s 400m after clocking 46.92.

Justice Oratile of Botswana was victorious in the race, stopping the timer at 46.44.

Sampson Victor of Nigeria finished second in 46.91.

Meanwhile in Heat 3 of the Under 20 men’s 400m, Kenya’s Simeon Araka missed out on qualification to the next round when he finished fifth after clocking 50.79.

In the only final of the day, it was a bad day in office for Victorious Jeruto who finished eighth in the Under 18 girls’ triple jump with a score of 11.10m.

Burkina Faso’s Zalissa Zongo walked away with gold courtesy of a score of 12.79m as Morocco’s Kawtar Merzaq (12.61m) and Tunisia’s Feriel Chniba (12.16m) took silver and bronze respectively.
