Shelly-Anne returns to Nairobi, the Jamaican promises fireworks at the Kipkeino Classic

Excitement as multiple Olympic and world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce returns to Kenya for the fourth edition of Kipkeino Classic Tour, World Athletics Continental Gold set for May 13, 2023 at Moi International Sports Centre Kasarani Stadium.

The Jamaican sprint star ran 10.67 in her first 100m race of 2022 at the Kip Keino Classic in Nairobi and will be seeking similar start to her season when she races at the Botswana Golden Grand Prix, World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting, in Gaborone on 29 April.

“I’m coming back to Nairobi, on May the 13th for Kipkeino Classic and I’ll be racing over the 100 meters, last year was awesome, fantastic I liked it, the stadium was just filled with so much excitement and noise and crowd and music and it was so much fun, so make sure that you guys get your tickets, because I want see you in Nairobi on may the 13th and we’re gonna have some fun, we’re gonna show up and of course gonna have some fun time have some fun and rock that stadium like we did last year so get your tickets see you in Nairobi thank you,” Shelly-Anne said in a small video released by the organizers.

The Jamaican sprint queen, who aims to qualify for her fifth and final Olympics when she will be 37, also wants to lower the women’s 100m world record within her last two seasons of competition.

“I want to run 10.5 or 10.4,” she said of her plans to better her personal best of 10.60 seconds, which makes her the third-fastest woman behind American world record holder Florence Griffith-Joyner who dashed to 10.49 in 1988,” Shelly-Anne told the Olympic Channel la at month.

This year’s World Athletics Continental Tour offers the biggest calendar and includes 14 Gold level events spread across five of the six continental areas.

The series started in Melbourne, Australia, on 23 February and runs through to September, when the Memorial Borisa Hanzekovica in Zagreb, Croatia, welcomes athletes on 8-10 September.
World 100M champion  Fred Kerley of USA ,Olympic 100M champion Marcel Jacobs of Italy are among the cream de la cream athletes who competed in last year’s  edition and the event organizers are expressing confidence that this edition will be bigger with more starts set to race at event.
The commonwealth and African champion Ferdinand Omanyala who is also been listed g of Gaborone meet alongside Shelly-Ann will be targeting for a 2nd consecutive  title after finishing 2nd in 2021 behind American ,Trayvin Brommel ,before emerging top beating Kerley to 2nd position last year and Kerley went on to win the global title over 100m in Eugene later the same year.

“We are assembling some of the best track and field athletes to come and compete the Kipkeino, I can assure fans that this edition will be the biggest. We want to ensure the stadium is filled with spectators just like we did during the 2017 World Under-20 Athletics Championships. In the come days we will be releasing the names of t he stars when have confirmed participation,” Barnaba Korir, the race director.
