Safaricom boost Kip Keino Classic with Sh9.2m sponsorship

Safaricom has announced Ksh. 9.2 million sponsorships for the fourth edition of the Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour Gold scheduled to take place on Saturday 13th September at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

Athletics Kenya President Lt Gen. Jackson Tuwei accompanied by the Kip Keino Classic Meet Director Barnaba Korir, praised Safaricom for their continued support towards athletics and called on more corporates to come on board and make the event a major success.

“We are grateful for the support the event has received from Safaricom and other Kenyan corporates and alongside the government. We call upon others to come on board to help improve status and growth of sports,” said Tuwei

Tuwei further said; “We are ready to host the world for the Kip Keino Classic and I take this opportunity to welcome both the foreign and local athletes and their support personnel that includes coaches, physiotherapist and managers for this year’s event that promises to be greater,” said Tuwei.

Karen Basiye, Safaricom Director Sustainable Business and Social Impact, handed over the sponsorship cheque to Athletics Kenya president Tuwei and Meet Director Korir at media ceremony held at Kasarani Stadium and said the giant telecommunication company will also be partnered with Athletics Kenya to plant over 2,000 trees at the Moi International Sport Centre on Friday and Saturday.

“We believe in transforming lives in the community that we operate in and that is why we are open to this spirit of partnership with Athletics Kenya. Athletics is part and parcel of our heritage hence our strong support this year,” said Basiye.

Olympic and World 200m silver medallist Kenneth Bednarek, World 100m silver medallist Marvin Bracy, World javelin champion Anderson Peters, three-time women’s Olympic hammer throw champion Anita Wlodarczyk, World 100m champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson are some of the athletics stars light up the event.
