Podium sweep for Kenya at Milano, Vienna road races

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 6, 2025 – Leonard Langat led a clean podium sweep for Kenya at the Milano Marathon on Sunday, in what was a fruitful harvest for the country in various road races across Europe.

Langat clocked 2:08:38 to cross the finish line first, ahead of fellow countrymen, Isaac Kipkemboi Too (2:08:45) and Timothy Kosgei Kipchumba (2:09:11), who claimed second and third respectively.

In the women’s race, Joan Jepkosgei made the podium after finishing second in 2:25:33, behind Ethiopian Shure Demise Ware, who clocked 2:23:32 to emerge victorious.

Alemtsehay Mekuria, also of Ethiopia, clinched third after timing 2:27:24.

Elsewhere, Betty Chepkemoi led another podium sweep for Kenya, at the Vienna City Marathon on Sunday.

Chepkemoi clocked 2:24:14 to cut the tape, ahead of Rebecca Tanui (2:25:18) and Catherine Cherotich (2:25:45) who completed the next two podium places.

Kenya’s Mica Cheserek finished second in the men’s race, timing 2:10:23, in a race won by Ethiopia’s Haftamu Abadi who clocked 2:08:28 for the triumph.

Mogos Tuemay, also of Ethiopia, took third after timing 2:10:23.

At the Madrid Half Marathon, Levy Kibet reigned supreme in the men’s race after clocking 1:00:45.

Fellow Kenyan, Titus Kiprotich, came second after clocking 1:00:48 as Tanzanian Daniel Sinda finished third in 1:01:04.

Emmy Jepkemoi triumphed in the women’s race after stopping the timer at 1:09:09, ahead of Ethiopian Diniya Kedir Abaraya who clocked 1:10:00.

Another Kenyan, Nancy Sang, clocked 1:11:11 to finish third.
