An eleven-member team has been selected for the World Indoor Games slated from 17th to 20th of March this year in Portland, United States of America.
The 11 athletes and 4 officials were announced by Athletics Kenya President Maj Gen (Rtd) Jack Tuwei and Vice President Paul Mutwii who is the Competition director.
Olympic Bronze medalist Timothy Kitum and Nicholas Kiplagat have been earmarked to run in the 800metres together with Margaret Nyairera in men and women respectively.
Upcoming Vincent Kibet and Bethwel Birgen will feature in the men’s 1,500metres while World 5,000metres Silver medalist Caleb Mwangangi and former Commonwealth Games 5,000metres champion Augustine Choge are the marksmen in 3,000metres.
In women, 10,000metres specialist Betty Saina and Nancy Chepkwemoi will combine in the lady’s 3,000metres when the 3-day championships kick off in the United States.
The team that will be managed by Francis Afundi, Alice Adala, Kenneth Kimwetich and Edward Mwema, will be counting on the experiences of Mwanngangi, Choge and Saina as the chase every medal in the Indoor circuit.
