November 28, 2015

Athletics Kenya Cross Country build-up scaled a new height in Nyahururu over the weekend with Cleophas Ng’etich and Caroline Chepkoech securing their second victories in the seven chain series.

The duet maintained their captivating screenplay after overpowering their antagonists to win during the second leg in Kangaru, Embu and the opener in Nairobi since the series commenced on November 7th this year.

Ng’etich, who trains in Kapsabet, completed the 10kilometres progression in 30:30.4 in his third attendance and chalked his second win after Kangaru and placing 5th in Nairobi.

Formidable force Dominic Kiptarus, the winner of the pioneer in Nairobi, was lowered to 2nd place in 30:43.8 while Fredrick Musyoki, who finished 9th in Nairobi, timed 30:51.2 in position 3.

“I am making good progress after my first race when I finish in position 5 in Nairobi. Today it was not as easy as it was in Embu. I had to run with focus to win. I will not compete in the next race in Iten. I need to train more,” said the young champion.

For Chepkoech, the Africa junior champion in 2012, it was just a formality  at play. It was the third first finish this season after discovering the winning tricks during Ndalat Gaa on October 10th and stretching it to Nairobi and down to Nyahururu.

She covered the wet and windswept path totaling to 8kilometres at the Nyandarua Institute of Science and Technology in 35:01with Margaret Cherono closing in 2nd in 35:18.6 while Sheila Chepkirui, the winner in Embu, came third in 35:24.1.

Andrew Lorot and Ivyn Chepkemoi won the junior categories as attention now shift to the North Rift this week with Iten, the pride Home of Champions, host the 4th Premium on Saturday.
