While the Christian the Family will be marking Easter in Churches and social places, the athletic Fraternity will converge at the Mumias Sports Complex for the 2nd Athletics Kenya Track and Field contention on Friday and Saturday.
Athletics Kenya Western Region Chairman Francis Afundi is putting the final touches on the ground to ensure the athletes will have quality competitions with sound organization.
â€œWe have spent the entire week working on the track. I am assuring the participants that they will have good competition in Mumias this Easter,â€ said Afundi at the Venue during the week.
The competitions, the precursor to the World Athletics Championships in London during the month of August, are annually used by elite athletes in their preparations ahead of regional and national selections.
Mumias Meet will pull participation from the rich high altitude regions of Mt Elgon, Kapsabet, Nandi Hills and Kaptagat as well as Kericho and Keringet in the South Rift.
â€œThe fans here are waiting to witness a rare spectacle when their sons and daughters from Western meet their match from other regions. The sprinters will have great opportunities to attain their Personal Best,â€ added the official extending invitation to the neighbouring nation of Uganda whose sprinters have not been missing the show.
Athletics Kenya has organized six Weekend Meetings across the country. Mumias is the second show-stopper after Bondo in Nyanza North last weekend.
Central Athletics Kenya Region will organize the 3rd congregate on April 28th and 29th at Thika Stadium while Afraha Stadium in Nakuru will host the 4th challenge on May 5th and 6th.
The last two build-ups will be held in Kisii in Nyanza South and Eldoret in the Central Rift on May 12th and 13th and 19th and 20th respectively.
