The local cross country championships enters the homestretch this weekend when all the regions would be staging their competitions countrywide.
The last step to the cut-throat national championships-cum national selection will see Nairobi Region congregate at their traditional Posta playing grounds on Saturday while Central province would see actions riveting inKaratina in Nyeri.
In South Rift, Central Rift and North Rift in the expansive Rift Valley, the three regions would be selecting their teams in Kericho, Kapsabet and Iten as the cut-down to the February 14th championships move to feverpitch level.
Other regions that are expected to hold their championships includes Eastern, Nyanza North and South, Coast, Southern and Western as while as the Kenya Universities Cross country that will take place at Kabianga University College in Kericho.
Last weekend, two competitive affiliates- Kenya Prisons Service and the Kenya National Police Service staged their selection at Uhuru Gardens and Ngong Race Course respectively.
During the championships, World Half Marathon champion Geoffrey Kamworor, cross-country hardened Mathew Kisorio and Africa junior champion Moses Mukono were the hot cake for National Police while Philip Langat, Vincent Rono and Cornelius Kangogo starred for the Kenya Prisons Service.
In women, upcoming Stacy Ndiwa, the 2008 Commonwealth Games Youth 1,500metres champion, ruled the Kenya Police championship with training Janet Kisa coming second ahead of former double World champion Vivian Cheruiyot, who is on a come-back after family engagement.
Cynthia Cherotich, Nancy Nzisa and Viola Chepchumba took gold, silver and bronze during the Kenya Prisons and the two institutions are now rehearsing for the mouth-watering national challenge that will also be an IAAF Permit Meeting in Nairobi.
