CROSS VENUE CHANGED

The 3rd Athletics Kenya Cross Country Meeting will take place this Saturday has been shifted from the grassy Nyandarua Technical Training College to Ol Kalao town within Nyandarua County.

 

 

The build-up, coming after the first and second legs that were held in Nairobi and Sotik in the South Rift, is involving more than 600 athletes with international runners expected to dominate.

 

 

Nyandarua Athletics Kenya chairman Francis Kamau Mwaniki said the new course has been prepared while other logistics are being finalize for the Saturday competitions.

 

 

 “Ol Kalao town has an ideal cross country terrain. The venue is within the town and is easily accessible compared to the Institute. The participants will enjoy running on course,” assured Mwaniki, also the Manager of Mfae Athletics Club.

 

 

 The pleasant weather conditions prevailing in the region has lured the top cream in the Cross Country running in Kenya especially those training within Nyahururu and Keringet in the neighbouring Nakuru County.

 

 

Nyandarua is the home of Cross Country. John Ngugi, Bedan Muchiri, Naomi Mugo, the Late Samuel Wanjiru and the Late Joseph Kimani are among a dozen of pioneers runners who propelled the region to the international limelight.

 

 

 The top crème de crème that are expected during the Premium include limitless Sandrafelis Chebet and Nicholas Kipkorir who have dominated the event this season and Africa Cross-country queen Alice Aprot who would be squaring it out with local talents that will include upcoming Simon Muthoni and Joel Melly.

 

 

Coach Mwaniki is positive on the class expected for the contest saying the region has been attracting the best as the athletics nerve centre of Central Kenya Region.

 

 

 “The Meeting will be more competitive because it is the third race after the first two series. We have several upcoming athletes from our training camps here that are expected to challenge the old order. We are sure of witnessing the birth of new champions,” added the tactician.

 

 

The assembly will be graced by Athletics Kenya officials led by AK senior Vice President and Director of Competitions Paul Mutwii.
