Athletics Kenya released its national and international competition calendar this week that will engage athletics society ahead of major championships.
The highlight of the calendar will be the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda on March 26th, the IAAF World Relays on April 22-23 in Nassau, Bahamas, the IAAF World Under18 Championships in Nairobi on July 12th to 16th and the IAAF World Championships from August 4th-13th in London.
The season kicks off next week with cross-country where upcoming and seasoned runners will dust their spikes during the 8th version of the Safaricom Ndalat Gaa Kids showbiz in Nandi County, the race pioneered by former AK President, the Late Isaiah Kiplagat.
Nairobi County will commence the Athletics Kenya Cross Country series, now increased to 8, with the 1st Weekend Meeting on November 5th with Trans-Mara, for the first time, hosting the second edition on November 12th.
Nyandarua Technical Training Institute in Nyahururu will host the third Premium on November 19th before the series move to North Rift where St Patrick’s Iten will be the venue for the 4th Premium on December 3rd.
The 5th and the 6th legs will take place in Kapsokwony in Mt Elgon of Western Region and Machakos in the Southern on December 10th and 18th ahead of Sotik in South Rift on January 7th before the series conclude with the 8th segment on January 21st in Kangaru, Embu in Eastern.
In-between the series, the calendar has also outlined other competitions including the annual Baringo Half Marathon on November 5th, Tecla Loroupe 10Km Peace run on November 12th and Kass Marathon for road racers to be co-hosted by the two Counties of Nandi and Uasin Gishu on 13th November. Tusky’s Matress Wareng Cross-country is programmed for November 26th in Eldoret.
The climax of the local cross-country competitions will be the National championships to be held at Ngong Race Course on February 18thwhere the national team to the World Champions will be selected.
