OL KALOU, Kenya, December 14 – Vincent Langat cruised to victory in a hotly contested senior men’s 10km race at the Betika Athletics Kenya (AK) Cross Country Series in Ol Kalou on Saturday.
Amid blazing conditions at the Ol Kalou Arboretum, Langat clocked 32:05.2 to cross the finish line at the fifth leg of the annual series as training mate, Wisley Kipkemoi, came second in 32:08.9.
North Rift’s John Lomoni came third in 32:18.4.
Langat says he is still hungry for more and is rubbing his hands with glee ahead of the next season.
“It was a very tough race but I fought so hard. I thank God for the victory. I am looking forward to the new year and I am confident it will be just as successful as this one,” Langat, who also finished second at this year’s Hong Kong 10km road race, said.
His peer, Kipkemoi, was happy for his close friend just as he was elated for himself.
“We have worked hard in training and with that kind of preparations, we were always looking to make the podium. I am happy for him. We had a programme that ensured that we would finish in the top two positions. I thank our coach for the support he has given us to be able to perform this well today,” Kipkemoi said.
At the same time, Lomoni believes his third-place finish is a solid platform to build on ahead of 2025.
“I thank God that I made the podium today, considering this is my first time competing in the Cross Country Series. With the new season upon us, you can only expect things to get better as far as my performances are concerned,” he said.
The trio will be hoping to feature on the podium once again, at the next leg of the series in Kisii on January 4.
