Bii makes NCAA history as Kosgei, Lemngole dominate distance events

NAIROBI, Kenya, June 16, 2025 – The 2023 African triple jump silver medallist Winny Bii leapt into the history books over the weekend, becoming the first-ever Kenyan to win the NCAA triple jump title with a commanding performance in Eugene.

Bii, who is pursuing a master’s in sports business management at Texas A&M University, wasted no time asserting herself, soaring to 13.96m on her opening attempt.

The mark stood unchallenged through all six rounds, earning the 21-year-old a well-deserved place atop the podium.

Bii led a competitive field, edging Sweden’s Emilia Sjostrand (13.88m) and Australia’s Agur Dwol (13.77m).

On the track, University of New Mexico’s Pamela Kosgei delivered a masterclass in distance running, sealing a rare double with victories in both the 5,000m and 10,000m finals.

Kosgei, the 2023 World U20 cross country bronze medallist, kicked to a 15:33.96 win in the 5,000m.

She held off Sweden’s Vera Sjoberg (15:34.77) and American Sophia Kennedy (15:35.08).

The Kenyan returned to dominate the 10,000m, stopping the clock in 31:17.82.

She finished comfortably ahead of Grace Hartman (31:32.15) and fellow Kenyan Joy Naukot (31:34.34).

Meanwhile, Doris Lemngole of the University of Alabama extended her scintillating form in the steeplechase, storming to the NCAA title in a meet-record of 8:58.15.

Lexy Halladay (9:08.68) and Angelina Napoleon (9:16.66) followed in second and third.
