Margaret Nyairera Wambui is a middle distance runner who has participated in the 800m race.


She was born on 15th september 1995 in Endarasha a village set on the slopes of Aberdare ranges in Nyeri county. She is from a family of four where shes an only daughter.


At the age of 18, and in form three at Tetu High, Margaret participated in the Athletics Kenya Trials for World Junior Championships held at The Nyayo National Stadium on the 24th and 25th of June, 2014, where she competed in the 800m race and took position two after maximilla imali. she made the cut and was among those selected to represent the country in the 2014 World Junior Championships.


At the World Junior Championships Margaret ran the race of her life in the finals, three seconds faster than her previous lifetime best which she had set in the semifinals, as she won over two laps of the track in 2:00.49. In her first season of high level competition, the 18-year-old sprinted away from Cuba’s pre-race favourite Sahily Diago, attacking from 70 metres out, to claim Kenya’s fourth junior title in the women’s 800m but the first one in 12 years.
