AK eulogises three fallen Kenyan athletes

NAIROBI, Kenya, October 9 – Athletics Kenya (AK) have condoled with the family and friends of Kenyan athletes Kipyegon Bett, Clement Kemboi and Samson Kandie who passed away in the past week.

Bett, a former world under-20 champion, passed away in Bomet, Kenya, following a short illness at the young age of 26.

Bett first captured the world’s attention with his remarkable victory in the 800m at the 2016 World Under-20 Championships.

He further solidified his status as a top athlete by winning a bronze medal at the 2017 World Championships in London.

Kemboi, the 2015 African Games 3,000m steeplechase champion, was found dead in Iten town.

On the other hand, Kandie succumbed to injuries sustained in an attack at his home in Eldoret last Friday.

The federation said the trio’s achievements will always remain a part of Kenya’s rich heritage as an athletics powerhouse.

“The achievements of Bett, Kemboi and kandie to Kenyan athletics will always be remembered, and their legacies will continue to inspire future generations of athletes,” AK said in a statement.
